Dear Minnie:
Been going throught this since I was 37 and know I am 47.  Was on the pill for those 10 years and know he has taken me off them and we are going to do blood work to see were I am in this menopause beginning, middle or end.  I know it is not the end because I still have the curse but I miss for two months and then I only get a spot here and there or only two day periods.  I have a real problem with mood swings?  Can you recommend any thing that might help.  I am trying to give up coffee and chocolate and get exercise. any other suggestion.  Please answer.  I am all alone in Toronto with not one friend except the man I live with and he is trying real hard to understand but does not.  Need help.  Kathleen

Dear Kathleen,
Here's my links page: http://www.minniepauz.com/minnie2.html  Please check out a couple of the links I have listed there, such as Project Aware and Early Menopause. That will give you a starting place to getting your symptoms under control and back to feeling like yourself again. Also check out the Power Surge message board (in the middle column) where you will find other women to talk to who are experiencing some of the same situations you are.

Sincerely,
Minnie

Dear Minnie:
I am at a loss of what to do and thought you might could help.
Background:  I am extremely overweight, am on estrogen patches from a total hysterectomy, and blood pressure medicine with diuretic.  I read Dr. Atkins book and began eating low. carbs.  To my surprise I began to gain weight.  Upon closer examination of Dr. Atkins book it told me that Estrogen could keep you from losing and I should not be taking a diuretic because of Potassium and mineral loss.  I am willing to try getting off the Estrogen patches but do not have a local doctor that understand low carb dieting.  My gyn certainly feels Estrogen is best.  I need immediate help in knowing what to do rather than getting off the diet.  I have added a potassium supplement in hopes that will help.  Do you have any suggestion?  HELP.  Pam

Dear Pam:
It sounds like you're really caught between a rock and a hard place with the hormones and the diet stuff. There are so many issues going on and I haven't found just one person who has the answers. You'll have to do a little combined research and then make a decision on what is going to be best for YOU....  fortunately I haven't had to deal with taking estrogen, especially since all the reports came out last summer. The first place you need to visit is: http://www.hystersisters.com There is so much information and support there and you will find some help with how to get off the patches if that is your goal.

The next problem is finding a doctor who will help you find the right balance with hormones and your diet, not someone who only believes one way.

I hope this helps and I'm pullin' for ya!! :)
Stay cool!
Minnie
