Dear Minnie:
My name is Jessica and I am 19 years old
living with a mom going to thorugh Menopause! She is a single mom
of 4 kids (the older 3 are married and have kids), so a lot of everything
ends up on me sometimes. I was wondering if you have any tips on
how to deal with a parent going through this or knew of any sights that
give advice for ppl living with someone going through menopause!
Also, Thanks so much for your site! It helped me understand where
my mom is coming from a little bit more!! Thank you.....Jessica
Dear Jessica:
You are definitely a caring, sensitive
daughter to be searching for info to help understand what your Mom is going
through. Anyone reading this will be thinking about their own families
and wondering if someone has felt the way you do.....actually, KNOWING
that somewhere along the way (during the transition), they probably have.
One of the first things you can do is try
to be open with your Mom. Tell her you are trying to understand about all
the hormonal changes because you will someday experience the same thing.
Ask her questions to get a view from her perspective and compare notes.
Most of us have to educate ourselves about our health and now the two of
you can do this together. The humor on minniepauz.com is a great place
to start, but also share the other pages with your Mom so she will have
the resources to help her get her life back into balance. Minnie

This is also an interesting study about
young women's perceptions of menopause: http://www.charis.wlc.edu/publications/symposium_spring02/fecteau.pdf
All my best! (and keep laughing!)
