So, what's the diff?

For those of you who are just beginning this wonderful process, here we can narrow down the symptoms and ask questions like "am I starting perimenopause?"

So, what's the diff?

This is, more than likely, one of those dumb questions  , but I would really like to know the difference between peri-menopause and menopause. It seems like so many of the symptoms are the same. You can point me to a thread rather than having to repeat info. Thanks.

Peri-menopause is the time leading up to cessation of menstruation (can last for a short time or up to 10+/- yrs.) which is officially menopause (I believe 1 yr. w/o menstruation is the "official"). It's when all those hormones are out of whack and are deciding whether to "turn on" or not that's why perimenopause is never the same thing, it varies sooo greatly even with the same person.

Perimenopause is further defined as the time from the end of regular usual periods (for many, the kind that you could set your calendar by) until you haven't had a period for one year.
