Anyone heard of smoking as a trigger to early menopause?

Postby deb65 » Sat Sep 24, 2005 12:44 pm

Recently I heard that smoking can trigger early menopause. I smoked from an early age (around 12 years old) til I was 28.
I started having symptoms of Perimenopause at around the age of 36.
Has anyone else heard or read of this :?:

Yes, I have read that as well and also had an early menopause at 42...I mean that's when my periods stopped cold, so I'm sure I was having peri symptoms for a few years before then. I'm 57 now and just quit smoking 7 months ago (as of Oct 1) after smoking for 43 years.
