INSOMNIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AND HEAT!!!!!!!!!

Postby danmia » Fri Jun 16, 2006 8:20 am

Just thought I'd moan again and share my woes with you ladies. Insomnia is driving me insane, I am getting on average a good four to five hours sleep a night always interrupted every hour on the hour with night sweats and trembling shivering like I've never known before. Last night it was a combination of that and a howling cat who decided that 4 in the morning was the time he should be let out. Then at 5 another cat joined in the fun and decided to sit on my husbands head who then in his sleep pushed it over to my head, this cat weighs 25lb plus!!!!!!!!! It doesn't help my husband works shifts so I try to keep the same time frames as him, consequently one day its days another it's nights, my body is screaming at me, would you make up your mind which clock we're on!!!! And to top this all off, the weather is going to be mid eighties to mid nineties for the next week, summer is here, claustrophic air conditioners are going in, and I absolutely hate it!!!!!!!!
There doesn't that feel better I say to myself? No not really but just had to share it with someone.
Have a great day ladies

I can commiserate with the heat it's been in the 90's here (for awhile) and since TS Alberto the humidity has been awful!! Yesterday I went w/DH to Dr. and we took the un-ACed car well what started out as a simple Dr.s visit and lunch turned into a long drive up to Tarpon Springs for Greek food then to Home Depot for some stuff. I wore a poly-blend shirt which was sticking to me by the first 20 minutes and made me VERY snappish!!! (I hate snapping at DH and when I apologize he makes it sound like I'm a saint and NEVER snap and "of course you NEVER snap " funny sometimes it just feels god to snap!!) anyway I came home and stripped down to comfies and grabbed the big icepack from the fridge as well as the big ice filled coke bottles and laid them around me on the couch.... HEAVEN!!!! I mean really heaven!! I won't hesitate again! With TS Alberto came thunder and 3 70+/- # dogs in bed and horrible humidity, at least we didn't lose power, it can get hot in that bed but so far no hot flashes, don't know what I'll do if they do strike!!!

HUgs and a nice fan!!!

danmia, you might want to consider low dose hormones to try to get your body back into balance...I don't remember what your situation is regarding that type of treatment, but you could discuss the options with your physician.

It's SO important for you to get enough regular sleep because NOT getting it can make everything else worse. Maybe you should try keeping regular hours instead of trying to maintain your husband's schedule. He would surely understand and it might just be what you need.

My other suggestion would be to use as many "tools" as you can to reduce the stress of getting to sleep and staying asleep, plus the night sweats. Try taking Remifemin's Good Night and then use a Chillow pillow or even the Bedfan that you can find here: http://www.minniepauz.com/problemsolvers.html Another helpful tool is the wicking sleepwear that you can also get from that page. This will help those chills you get from the nightsweats.

Also, you could keep a cooler with iced down water bottles next to the bed, use an eye mask for darkness (or a cool one for headaches)....just anything that will make your sleeptime easier.

I cannot tolerate the heat either, but even though I hate the noise (and the expense) of running the a/c, it's a necessary evil. I hope you can find a way to stay cool and get some sleep very soon!! Let us know how you're doing!

I am already on progesterone which is a great help in some ways, and a hinderance in others. But I tried going without it, if you remember, and it was a disaster!!!!!!!! Anyhoo, to cheer me up its a heatwave here in Maine and as the evening goes on it's getting more and more humid. Last night it was pretty hot but I had another of those shiver and shake attacks which freaked my husband out (usually he's asleep when they happen) and he was telling me to lie down and putting blankets on me, it was very sweet and I didn't complain a bit of pampering never hurt anybody. Today I have the airconditioning on full blast and still can't get cool enough, you just cannot win. I couldnt change my hours, we would never see each other again if I did that!!!!!!! He works from 4pm to 3am in the summer months and I conform to that so that we see each other. He only has one day off a week too so that makes everything a bit odd in our house. I work at home so it's easier for me to just adapt to his hours rather than go to bed only to be woken up when he gets home, because our dogs would never greet him silently hehe and he rides a motorcycle that you can hear for miles!!!! It would just add to my anxiety if I tried to sleep at odd hours to his. So onward and upward with the battle of heat and cold. It plays havoc with my brain in the morning what to wear is it hot or cold, not the weather but me!!!!!!
I've rambled again sorry have a good night ladies
