It seems almost impossible, but on the 27th of this month I will be officially 60 years of age! I was only 41 when I went into menopause and it was 5 years later when I created Minnie Pauz. It was a few years later when I put the cartoons on the web and was brave enough to start showing them to select groups of women. At that time, there were very few websites that focused on menopause and none that featured a menopausal cartoon character! There were a few medical websites that had a section on menopause, but the only one that was really 100% for women in menopause was Power Surge, created by my friend Alice Stamm, known as "Dearest". So, she really gets the credit for the first menopause site from a woman who was experiencing it! I will take credit for the first humorous site about menopause. Approximately 14 years later I am totally amazed at where this has taken me and I am very excited about what the future holds. Considering that I was 50 by the time my cartoon became a website and then a full time business, that should be encouragement for any of you who might have thought that menopause means "the end" of your life as a creative, successful, happy HOT WOMAN! Now I am on a path to do even more in the next 10 years to bring awareness to the ups and downs of this time of life and hopefully inspire each of you to get through the challenge of menopause and emerge as a confident, secure, respected member of society who can do anything you want to do! Executive Producer, Heidi Houston and Director, Marc Bennett are looking for your menopause stories for the feature-length documentary Hot Flash Havoc. They want to hear the good, the bad and the ugly to portray menopause in it's reality and totality instead of what is seen in tv commercials or sitcoms. Please share you story by clicking on the Hot Flash Havoc link at the bottom of page. Remember, menopause is
not a disease it's a LIFESTYLE!TM

SO
TRUE!!
According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 50's, 60's and early 70's probably shouldn't have survived, because our baby beds were covered with brightly coloured lead-based paint, which was promptly chewed and licked. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and it was fine to play with pans. when we rode our bikes, we wore no helmets, just flip flops and fluorescent 'spokey dokeys' on our wheels. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or airbags - riding in the passenger seat was a treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle and it tasted the same. We ate chips, bread and butter pudding and drank fizzy pop with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared one drink with four friends, from one bottle or can and no one actually died from this. We would leave home in the morning and could play all day, as long as we were back before it got dark. No one was able to reach us and no one minded. ![]()

Beer May Help Prevent Alzheimer's FROM DR. ANDREW WEIL Those who believe everything that tastes good is bad for you, take heart: elements in beer, it turns out, may protect against the harmful effects of aluminum on the brain, according to a new study. Researchers from the University of Alcala in Madrid, Spain, in a report published in the January, 2008 issue of Food and Chemical Toxicology, pointed out that aluminum is neurotoxic and has been implicated as a causal factor in Alzheimer’s disease. But beer contains silicon, a substance that affects the bioavailability of aluminum. The study, which involved giving both an aluminum compound and beer to mice and later analyzing aluminum concentrations in brain tissue, found that the silicon in “moderately high” levels beer intake – the equivalent of two beers per day - limited the ability of aluminum to damage the brain. It’s a large leap – and one I’m unwilling
to make - to contend that we should all begin consuming two beers a day
as a result of this study. But several studies have shown that moderate
consumption of alcohol, on the order of one beer or glass of wine per day,
may have cardio- and neuroprotective effects. If you don’t drink, you need
not start, as there are other ways to forestall the development of Alzheimer’s.
But moderate alcohol consumption can indeed be part of a healthy lifestyle.
