The Only "Monthly Arrival" You Can Count on in MidLife!
March 2010
Vol. 10 Issue 3

Dear Minnie Pauz Fans,
One of the biggest issues we face before, during and after menopause is getting enough SLEEP! There's a different story for every woman and we really don't put enough importance on the effect all those sleepless nights are having on our lives. From peri-menopause to post-menopause, women report the most sleeping problems. Most notably, these are due to hot flashes, mood disorders, insomnia and sleep-disordered breathing. Sleep problems are often accompanied by depression and anxiety. In addition to the common sleep problems that we have throughout menopause, you could also have Sleep Apnea which can have devestating effects on your heart. I created this page to help tie in with the other symptoms.

Menopause and Sleep
National Sleep Awareness Week®, which takes place March 7-13, 2010, is an annual public education and awareness campaign to promote the importance of sleep. The week begins with the announcement of the National Sleep Foundation's Sleep in America poll results and ends with the clock change to Daylight Saving Time, where Americans lose one hour of sleep. The Foundation's Sleep Care Center members host events in their local communities throughout the week, providing sleep education and screening to the public.

So please take a close look at your sleep situation as a possible way to improve some of your other symptoms and pass along any tips you might have on the blog or message board!

One of my favorite cartoons relating to this subject is "Non-Sleeping Beauty". :) Oh, I have two new cartoons this month (non-sleep related). You can see all 300+ cartoons when you sign up to receive this free newsletter. Please don't share this page with anyone....instead, encourage them to sign up for my newsletter on their own!

A wonderful new book for you!I know for a fact that so many of you are struggling with unexpected and unexplained weight gain since starting with menopause. There's hope and inspiration in this cheery, but serious book by Staness Jonekos who had a pretty scary experience when: "At forty-seven, I was busy planning my first wedding after thirty years of dating in Los Angeles. It was a joyful time, with the exception of hourly hot flashes, weight gain that made it impossible to preorder the wedding dress of my choice and a vagina that was in no mood for a honeymoon."

Staness (she explains her name in the book and basically every time she meets someone...lol) has put together a program that is helping women find the body, health and spirit they thought was lost forever! Wait until you see the pictures on her website! There's so much information in the book (please buy here) including recipes, charts for tracking your symptoms, goal sheets and so much more!

Menopause Health: New Study Confirms Calcium and Vitamin D Prevent Bone Fractures

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, women can lose up to 20% of their bone mass in the five to seven years after menopause, making them more susceptible to osteoporosis and fractures.  In a recent study from the Jan 10, 2010 issue of the British Medical Journal, it was confirmed that taking both calcium and vitamin D together on a daily basis significantly reduces the risk of bone fractures
