Menopause Merriment — Smart Move

According to the North American Menopause Society, menopause is a
natural biological event. In technical terms, it represents the permanent end
of monthly menstruation because the ovaries are no longer functioning the
same way. A woman's life expectancy in the US is around 80 years and by
that time, most women spend one-third to one-half of their lifetime in post
menopause. The average age of menopause is 51 years.

  A CLEVER IDEA

In late 1998, Dee Adams hit the world by storm. This new cartoonist found
an eager market for her cartoon, Minnie Pauz. The character is a
middle-aged woman who is dealing with the issue of menopause. She says,
"I lived through it and then decided to make it pay off!" Adams first started
her cartoon on the Internet (you can find it at http://www.minniepauz.com)
but was soon asked to bring her talents to medical conventions such as the
American College of Physicians. Now she spends her time developing new
cartoons and thinking of new opportunities.

  DEE'S TWO CENTS

Be willing to laugh at yourself during menopause
Don't be afraid to talk about it with friends and family
Believe in your fun ideas they can work!

  FUTURE PLANS

Dee has done some calendars, as well as t-shirts and coffee mugs.
She would love to one day have a retreat where women can go off and
talk about menopause out in the open and approach it from a lighter
       perspective.
Work with more doctors to get them to take a lighter approach toward
       the subject.
